The project ” Improved Response to Hate Speech through Legal Research, Advocacy and Training – REASON” was presented at the 24th Annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology, held in Bucharest from September 11 to 14 2024. At one of a total of 374 sessions of the Conference, Associate Professor Aleksandar Maršavelski from the Department of Criminal Law of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, legal expert of the REASON project, presented the paper “Research on hate speech in Croatia: the REASON project”, written in co-authorship with Professor Maja Munivrana from the Department of Criminal Law, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb (key legal expert of the project), Associate Professor Ines Sučić, from the Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar (methodology expert on the project) and Ivana Eterović from the Croatian Law Centre, Project Manager. The paper was an integral part of the session dedicated to online hate speech (“Hate speech in the online world and beyond”), chaired by Charlotte Korenke, from Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
