On May 27, 2025, the second Asylum Coordination meeting of the year was held at the premises of the Croatian Red Cross, bringing together representatives of competent institutions and organizations involved in the asylum system.
At the beginning of the meeting, key statistical data and an overview of developments in the international and temporary protection system in 2024 were presented, as outlined in the National Report on the Asylum System (see more here). The report was presented by legal experts from the Croatian Law Centre.
The floor was then taken by Mr. Dalibor Jurić, Director of the Directorate for European Affairs, International Relations, and EU Funds at the Ministry of the Interior, and Mr. Zvonimir Vrbljanin, Head of the Department for Irregular Migration. They presented the Ministry of the Interior’s activities in the context of implementing the Migration and Asylum Pact, including the national implementation plan, activities already carried out, and planned
next steps.
It was emphasized that a significant increase in the capacity of the facility in Dugi Dol is expected, which will be used for conducting in-depth checks and border asylum procedures. Further clarification was provided on the financial aspects of the implementation and the criteria for determining the amount of funds to which each EU member state is entitled. A substantial increase in the hiring of new staff at the Ministry of the Interior is also planned.
Participants at the meeting posed a number of questions to Ministry representatives regarding upcoming changes in the international protection system and requested additional clarifications. The Asylum Coordination has proven to be a valuable platform for dialogue and exchange of information with Ministry representatives.
