More than 100 civil society organisations, including the Croatian Law Centre, have signed an open letter calling on donors to increase their support for organisations working in the field of asylum and migration in Europe. The letter was drafted in response to funding cuts at a time when the number of displaced persons is rising, seriously threatening the work of organisations providing support to refugees and applicants for international protection.
These organisations are facing major financial pressures, reduced capacity, and limitations on their activities.
The signatories warn that continued lack of funding could leave many people seeking protection without necessary support and could destabilise asylum, reception and integration systems across Europe.
The letter includes concrete recommendations to the European Commission, EU member states and private donors, aiming to ensure the financial sustainability of civil society organisations and to safeguard the fundamental rights of refugees and asylum seekers.
The open letter was coordinated by the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE).
