
The Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights and the Rights of National Minorities discussed the results of the project “Improved Response to Hate Speech through Legal Research, Advocacy and Training – REASON” at its second meeting on July 10, 2024, as the first item on the agenda. The discussion focused on the findings from the empirical research on hate speech cases in Croatia from 2016 to 2021 and the evidence-based recommendations.
In addition to the members of the Committee, the meeting, chaired by Professor Milorad Pupovac, was attended by Tena Šimonović Einwalter, the Ombudswoman; Darijo Jurišić, the Ombudsman for Persons with Disabilities; Štefica Stažnik, Representative of the Republic of Croatia before the European Court of Human Rights; and Dijana Kesonja, Deputy Ombudswoman.
After a comprehensive and constructive discussion, the Committee adopted a conclusion supporting the activities of the Croatian Law Centre and its partners aimed at analyzing and improving the practices of relevant authorities in combating intolerance, thereby contributing to the enhancement of political culture in Croatia.
The project’s legal experts, Professors of Criminal Law Maja Munivrana and Aleksandar Maršavelski, as well as Ivana Eterović, the Project Manager, presented the research results.
