Due to circumstances leading to forced displacement and the departure from their country of origin, refugees are often separated from their family members. Since the fall of 2022, the Croatian Law Centre has been providing support in family reunification procedures, assisting individuals granted international protection in Croatia to reunite with their family members.

In practice, such procedures are lengthy and complex. Sometimes, due to the requirements that individuals must meet and the associated costs, these procedures can be unfeasible for some refugee families.

Therefore, within the framework of the project Complementary Pathways for Southeast Europe – COMP4SEE, the Croatian Law Centre has been providing support in family reunification procedures.

Through this project, 17 refugee families have been successfully reunited in Croatia. Seventeen individuals granted international protection in Croatia were joined by 23 family members. Some were reunited with their spouses, others with their mothers, and some with their daughters or sons.

The support program included legal assistance and other forms of support, such as helping with the completion of required applications, communication with relevant authorities, translation of necessary documents, and covering certain costs incurred during the process.

The COMP4SEE project concluded on June 30, 2024.
