Representative of the Croatian Law Centre participated in the Training for Refugee Employment Counsellors of the Croatian Employment Service (CES) on January 30, 2024. The training was organized in collaboration with CES and UNHCR, and county counsellors from CES from across the Republic of Croatia participated. A legal advisor from the Croatian Law Centre held an introductory lecture to familiarize participants with the basic concepts of international protection – what is international and temporary protection, who are applicants for international protection, asylees, persons under subsidiary protection, and foreigners under temporary protection, as well as their rights and obligations in the Republic of Croatia.

The theme of the UNHCR presentation was how to provide support and what to pay attention to in the employment of refugees, and besides the presentations, two panels were held. In the first panel, representatives of civil society organizations – the Centre for Culture of Dialogue, the Croatian Red Cross, the Jesuit Refugee Service, and the Association Svoja – shared their experiences in employing refugees, while in the second panel, refugees and CES advisors shared their experiences.

In addition, CLC presented a brochure titled The Right to Work – Applicants for International Protection, Persons granted International Protection and Foreigners under Temporary Protection. The brochure provides key information on the right to employment and work, as well as the protection of these rights. It has been translated into English, Ukrainian, and Russian languages and will soon be translated into other languages.
